5 TRENDS TO RING IN 2020
Houndstooth is a cult favorite for those who love wearing neutrals, and creates a cool spin for those who tend to wear louder prints. The black-and-white print is sleek and gives interest, without being too eclectic and bold; naturally having a luxurious look. Look no further than the ultimate outfit inspiration from none other than Cardi B — designed by Chanel for her front row spotlight at the PFW S/S 2020 show.
I can’t believe how many times I saw the puff sleeve on my feed in 2019 — the most popular seen in blouses and dresses. The not-so-basic top is here to stay for yet another season. Take it up a notch this winter with a puff sleeve in silhouettes of sweaters, cardigans, and long sleeve dresses. For the minimalists out there, the ’80s trend can sometimes lean too “camp”. Rest assured, working the look in a long sleeve can make it wearable and feminine.
Another fabric to have it’s major moment in fall 2019 — leather; but not the staple leather jacket you’re thinking of. Think skirts, dresses, and long coats. Leather is currently the off-duty staple to sport in this winter chill. Instead of wearing your usual parka, swap it out for a leather trench with a wrap belt. Outfit idea: Layer it with a turtleneck and sneakers for that cool, casual vibe which just the right amount of edginess.
A trend emerging once again, which all French girls love, is the classic cardigan. For 2020, Rachel’s grey cardigan is getting a revamp including fun sleeves, shapes, and colors. Styling trick: Instead of wearing your cardigan the new way, button the top two buttons and wear a fitted tee or bodysuit underneath. Or, just rock it the Katie Holmes way — so chic.
The black ankle boot will always be ready-to-wear with any jeans or dresses you own. You can’t deny their power to make any outfit look effortlessly sleek. For the next few months (or year, if you will), step out of your comfort zone and choose a tall boot instead. For you gals under 5’2”, tucking your denim in tall boots will do the opposite of elongating your legs. Trust me, I understand the art of making yourself look taller. In this case, create the illusion of longer legs by wearing your boots with dresses or skirts instead.
