It’s safe to say that layering is usually thought of as a styling trick merely for the colder months. I mean let’s be real, it’s an absolute must in order to survive walking outside of your apartment. But if you think about it, layering is key for really any time of the year. Even on a breezy summer night, you’re going to want to throw on a denim jacket over your cute frilly romper. Layering is one of fashion’s best known secrets to staying comfortable and/or as a fashion statement. It’s so easy to do too as long as you layer the right pieces. Check out my absolute favorites below!
BODYSUITS – If you haven’t come to this realization, bodysuits are everything. They’re the easiest thing to throw on and look instantly cute with zero effort. They’re prefect for layering because you can layer it under anything (blouses, camis, tees, jackets) for a sleek and put-together look. No matter if it’s lacy or a long-sleeve turtleneck, you will be able to layer it effortlessly.
BRAMI – Bra + cami = brami = one of the most simple but greatest pieces of the moment. I mean if we’re talking about a bodysuit being zero effort, this is a no-brainer. Same with tank tops and crop tops, a brami is so easy to layer underneath other tops, sweaters, cardigans, or jackets. It’s perfect as an extra light layer without adding bulkiness. Honestly, look no further than the ones from Free People. There are so many options all over their website.
TEES – Graphic tees, white tees, stripe tees, band tees, and vintage tees…really any kind of cool tee will work amazingly well for layering. Try wearing a tee underneath a cami and cardigan, or underneath a leather jacket with a long coat overtop. T-shirts are a casual piece that can be paired with a lot of different tops for a cool, layered look.
TURTLENECKS – So it might be obvious, but I’m obsessed with turtlenecks and I’ve realized my love for them won’t die anytime soon. The turtleneck has been back for a few seasons now and it continues to stay relevant on the market and in people’s closets. Not only are they the best thing to layer in fall/winter, but they keep you at optimal warmth when needed. There is a bunch of ways to pair a turtleneck with other layering pieces. Double the warmth with a turtleneck underneath a sweater or vest, or even under a tee for a light layering option, or style it underneath a blazer and coat.
COATS & JACKETS – I have to say that jackets are my top clothing piece above all. Yes there are a ton of different styles but you can also style them in countless ways. Layer your most beloved leather jacket (*heart eyes*) over a sweater, tee, denim jacket, etc. and underneath a coat with a thick blanket scarf to add depth and major interest to your outfit. For the summer, I love to wear a denim jacket over a bodysuit or crop top with denim shorts or even over a wrap dress. Really when it comes to layering coats and jackets, the possibilities are endless for any time of year.
Hope you all have been having a great week! I’m so excited to try these layering tricks for the spring season! I would love to hear what your favorite layering pieces are in the comments below.
