If you’re like me, then you know I absolutely thrive in the summertime. I mean, how can one not? Your ootd mostly calls for either a dress, shorts or skirts – no jacket, your skin gets tan and glowy, watermelon is in season, and you get all of those lovely benefits from the extra dose of Vitamin D. Having an epic summer is more than just the festivals you’ll be attending – it’s the little things too. Here are 8 things I do, and what I recommend you do, to have the best summer possible:
Drink water. I’ve said it before, but I won’t stop saying it either: drink water. Drinking water works absolute wonders for the health of your body and mind. Especially in the heat, you’ll want to get even more than just the 8 glasses in per day.
Enjoy the weather. Snow will be here before you know it, so take advantage of the nice weather and get outside. Whether that’s playing beach volleyball, going for a walk, biking, attending music festivals, etc. you can enjoy the warmth and sun while making some of your best memories.
Use sunscreen religiously. You already know from my skincare blog posts that using SPF is an absolute must. Now that it’s summer, boost the amount of SPF you’re using. Giving your skin that extra shield will help prevent any long-term side affects like age spots and wrinkles. Use a sunscreen with an SPF 30 and you’ll be set.
Stay curious. The thrill of summer is all about being carefree, experiencing new things and meeting new people. With this, means learning new things about yourself and the world around you. I encourage you to read that book you’ve been wanting to read, listen to a podcast, write in a journal, ponder on your wondering thoughts, ask questions, start a new project you’re passionate about – anything that inspires you and will further better you as an individual.
Get that bronzy glow. Get that sun-kissed glow that’s been so longed for over the past six months. I may be contradicting myself a little, but there’s nothing more exciting and confidence-boosting than getting a tan. Use SPF if you’re laying out in the sun or use a sunless tanner for that same bronzy glow. I love using the Loving Tan ultra dark mousse. It’s so easy to apply and you’ll look like you got back from a tropical vacation in just two hours.
Let your skin breathe. In the summer, you’re going to sweat and having a full face of makeup on will more than likely clog your pores. Give your skin a break and let it shine in all it’s natural beauty. Your skin will greatly thank you for it.
Appreciate the little things. I know it’s hard, but try not to worry or stress about everything too much. Life’s too short to get caught up on things that don’t really matter in the end. Meditate, workout, lay in a hammock – do anything to clear your head and appreciate life as it is in this very moment. Life’s a gift and it’s worth changing your perspective if you don’t believe that right now. The grass is always greener.
Love yourself. Your wellness – physically and mentally, is just as important as anything else you make a priority in your life. Self-care is absolutely vital. No matter how crazy your schedule is (especially in the summer), make sure you’re taking care of yourself first. Have self check-ins: evaluate what makes you happy and do more of it, get rid of the negative people that affect your happiness, and finally, love yourself.
As my body pump instructor always says, “I’ll see you on the playground”.
