To celebrate one of the most anticipated months in fashion, here are my favorite looks from NYFW September 2017.
Showcasing creative, unconventional concepts, NYFW gave a groundbreaking introduction to fashion month. From Tom Ford’s reappearance to New York, Alexander Wang’s fierce #WANGFEST, Coach’s dynamic configurations, and Marchesa’s undeniably beautiful pieces, the shows kept me wanting more. There were many shows that were beautiful and classic, but not necessarily revolutionary. On the other hand, there were shows that truly steered away from the traditional or “usual” styles and went beyond boundaries. These were the ones to be groundbreaking and really standout among the others. As one of the most important women in fashion, Anna Winter, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, stated, “It’s rule breaking, but not silly”.
What interested me even more was that many of the designers told their story not only through their collections, but through their runway venues. Creating more of an experience, designers dressed their runways with elements from their own world. This gave a deeper connection to their lives and what they value.
Furthermore, diversity played a major role in the shows. Parallel to the idea of steering away from tradition, designers incorporated diverse groups of models to walk their runways. To note, Michael Kors did just that with casting a group of models from all different kinds of backgrounds.
With a lot of catching up to do, I really enjoyed this year’s NYFW. The creativity and authenticity of the designs inspire me. For me, Coach 1941 and Ralph Lauren stood out to me the most this season.
