My Skincare Routine 2018

Happy Wednesday friends! Today I’m talking more on skin and the skincare routine I’ve found that works for me. If you haven’t read my Introduction to Skincare blogpost, go check it out first to get a better understanding of why it’s SO important to invest in your skin – no matter how good or bad your skin is.

Trust me; I know finding skincare products that actually work can be an overwhelming and expensive struggle. Especially having not-so-flawless skin myself, I feel your pain.

It has taken years to find a routine I actually see results from. I remember in high school I went to see a dermatologist who prescribed me all these creams and spot treatments. I was even put on a few medications for my acne even though my skin wasn’t THAT bad. Looking back, I definitely didn’t need to be put on medication. Spoiler alert: none of these prescription products or the meds did a single thing to help the appearance of my skin.

Fast forward to now, I’ve finally found a set routine that has (I’m not even lying) made a noticeable difference in my skin. My complexion has never looked more even, clear, and glowy. I do get blemishes here and there – mostly hormonal breakouts during that time of the month (love that), but I’ve definitely found products that successfully do the job to keep my skin looking its best.

When establishing a skincare routine, it’s important to know what steps to incorporate into your regime. At the bare minimum, your skin needs cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating to promote cellular turnover. This is our skin’s way of renewing itself so these steps are extremely beneficial for optimal cellular turnover. Toning the skin is another step that helps dissolve dead skin cells at the surface. ALSO I can’t say this enough, but wearing sunscreen is an absolute must. The sun is the biggest factor that ages the skin.

My Skincare Routine 2018

Day Routine

  1. Cleanser
  2. Moisturizer
  3. Sunscreen
  4. Facial Spray

For the morning, I wake up with a fresh, bare face so I just go straight to cleanser then moisturizer. Also, you guessed it, I never forget my sunscreen too! I also spritz my face with a facial spray as a great morning pick-me-up.

Night Routine

  1. Makeup Remover
  2. Cleanser
  3. Exfoliator (3 times per week)
  4. Toner
  5. Serum
  6. Moisturizer

For night, my routine has more steps because I need to remove my makeup and exfoliate. I always remove my makeup before I do any other step in my routine. If I’ve worn a full face of makeup that day, I’ll use my Clarisonic (instead of my hands) with my cleanser for a deeper clean. I don’t want any trace of makeup left behind.

After, I’ll exfoliate with a scrub. I save exfoliation exclusively for night because my skin tends to get a little rosy afterwards. I’ll go in with my toner and then use my serum. I leave my serum for nighttime too because, let’s be real, it’s expensive and I don’t absolutely need to use it twice in one day. I like using it at night because it can real soak into my skin while I sleep. Finally, I rub my moisturizer all over my face and BOOM, done.

Skin Script: I’ve been using a lot of products from the brand, Skin Script, which is a medical-grade skincare line that has quality, medical-grade ingredients that aren’t accessible over-the-counter. It’s only available through a licensed professional or retailer – sadly not Ulta or Sephora.  I have the hookup through my AMAZING esthetician. She introduced me to this line and gave me guidance for which products would work the best for me. I currently use two different cleansers from the brand, their scrub, serum, and moisturizer. I absolutely love all of these products. I’ve been using these consistently for about three months now and have seen a huge difference.

Oils: I’m obsessed with using oils to remove my makeup. I switch back and forth between jojoba oil and grape seed oil. Both are extremely hydrating and have other known benefits for making the skin glowy and youthful. These take my makeup off like a dream. I always make sure to buy organic.

Clarisonic Face Brush: This is the perfect skincare tool for me because it cleans my pores like no other. I use it with my cleanser to deeply cleanse my skin below the surface to remove any makeup or dirt left behind. My skin never feels cleaner than after I use my Clarisonic face brush.

Mario Badescu: My esthetician gave the stamp of approval for these products and the ingredients in them – I couldn’t be happier about it. The glycolic toner? Yes. The pink drying lotion as a spot treatment? Yes. The facial sprays?! Yas. All of these products have worked great for my skin to clarify, reduce blemishes and hydrate my skin.

Pamela Springer Sunscreen: This sunscreen has such a great gel consistency and doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily at all. It has SPF 15 with added antioxidants to increase the wear of the SPF in my skin to last all day.
