I'M NOT A HAIR PRO, SO THIS DRYBAR BLOWOUT ROUTINE IS A LIFESAVER

Having my locks go from my usual lion’s mane to looking 100% in under 45 minutes? Done. Whether I simply need a hair + scalp refresh or the near-perfect hair for date night, Drybar is always the answer. I’m sharing with you the complete breakdown of my blowout prescription I get almost every time at the blow dry salon. From initial wash to the hacks I swear by to preserve a good hair day, here’s my full Drybar blowout routine:

BLOWOUT PREP

The key to a stellar blowout is the wash beforehand. I like to ask for their purple shampoo (made for blondes) to enhance my natural color. I don’t see as much of a difference as color-treated blondes would, but I still do find it adds some vibrance. Their Liquid Glass formula is also amazing for adding shine while taking away frizz. Every other appointment, I ask for either a mask treatment or the activated charcoal scrubβ€”which gently exfoliates the scalp to promote hair growth.

THE STYLE

I’ve become set on two styles: My signature is a classic blowout, The Straight Up, with my hair almost completely straighten with a bit of volume. If I want something more undone but not curled, I ask for a French blowout look.

THE PRODUCTS

Before doing any blow-drying, the stylist uses the Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler to detangle the strands without causing breakage. It also acts as a heat protectant! This product has become my holy grail. Next, adding a styling serum with heat-activated properties further protects the hair from blow-drying while reducing blowout time. Once the hair is dried and straighten with the straightening brush tool, the stylist applies The Chaser High-Shine Finishing Cream for a luminous finish.

PERSERVE THE BLOWOUT

The blowout usually lasts for around three days, or more, depending on your hair type. I use a few simple hacks that make a big payoff in the longevity of my salon trip:

– Avoid touching your hair.
– Spray dry shampoo in your hair at night to absorb excess oils and wake up with added volume.
– While you sleep, toss your locks into either a loose bun (for curls) with a Drybar alligator clip or a high ponytail (for straighten) with a silk scrunchie.
– For curls, add texturizing spray to liven it up. For a straighten look, apply a nourishing oil.
– Wear a shower cap while you shower.
